Tonight, as I tucked the big boys in after tucking Oscar in at the hospital, Colton reminded me that he wanted to say his prayers. I sort of let him dictate when it comes to this, and to me its mostly an exercise in gratitude, but when he brings it up I am always game. His went like this tonight:
Dear God,
Please watch over me in the night.
Please keep my family together always.
When Oscar comes home please let him be sweet.
Thank you for my family.
Thank you for my house.
Thank you for my things.
Thank you for our home.
Thank you for our world.
Thank you for our universe.
Amen.
Then he said, Mom, its your turn.
I obeyed and started my standard prayer.
After a few sentences Colton stopped me and said, MOM, MOM, WAIT! What about
“Thank you for my husband?”
I laughed out loud. I said, “ok, you’re right. Thank you God for my husband.”
He continued, prompting me. “and Thank you for the flowers at my wedding.” I obliged, as I am still truly thankful for those gorgeous peonies. “And Mom, say thank you for our rings.” I did.
Love Colt. Just when you get a little down, he’s there to remind you what’s important. Thanking God for your husband 😉
